Our Pledge

Social Artery is a new interactive media platform for artists to help facilitate remote collaborative art making. This is a platform of exchange and participation led by and for artists as an ethical alternative to the multinational giant tech corporations.

Integrated into the Artery is the Social Art Library, an interactive archiving platform for any creative mediums that explore social practice.

Participation is adhering to our Safer Online Spaces policy, building inclusivity, solidarity and empathy amongst users regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation and any other personal and intersectional characteristics.

We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive digital environment and encourage full participation in the development of the platform by sharing ideas, constructive feedback and concerns about what a common participatory digital future may be.

Guiding Principles

Be a helpful host. All of the Members of the platform have different interests, backgrounds and experiences. All Members should welcome new Members by offering any tips and advice to help get them around the space.

Be respectful. Debate is welcome but not disrespectful behaviour. Everyone should support one another to avoid and resolve conflict should it arise and practice active empathy and shared solidarity at all times. The times we live in can be challenging and triggering and we need spaces to unpack these issues without entering into personal attacks.

We agree to create spaces where diversity can be welcome and people are comfortable to be themselves. Be considerate in your language and words and accept differences amongst people.

Social and technical disagreements will be part of the process of collaborating and co-creating. We agree to allow conflicting opinions and suggestions to arise without having necessarily to convert the other.

Participants are expected to resolve conflicts within their groups in a constructive manner. Should this not be possible mediation will occur through the agreed principles set forth here.

Be considerate. What we create will be seen and interacted by others, and in turn we will participate and rely on the posts created by others.

Many of the things we create and co-create will be part of a larger Social Art Library as well.

Archiving is an essential aspect of the Artery and what we produce and co-produce will have an impact on other Members and participants. Please consider this future legacy with every content you make and share.

Be collaborative. Collaboration between groups that each have individual goals  and visions is an underlying principle that unites everyone. Through collaboration the platform grows to become a bespoke digital space for sharing, learning and participating.

We will grow slowly and consciously taking into account everyone’s needs and desires for an ethical and considered online space. Our aim is to work transparently and involve creative practitioners from the very beginning stages onwards.

Ask and answer. No one has all the answers in this new initiative. We have forums for exchange where you are encouraged to ask and answer each other’s questions.

The more we share the more we learn and the more we can grow into a unique and creative space for everyone. The best way to create a discussion is through participation. We will all grow and learn together by being responsive and helpful.

Shared leadership. We can all advance as a creative community in an online space by being champions of and in our groups and sharing our work with others who may be interested in creating a new world online.

Sharing leadership is an essential strategy towards collective consensus and team building. Those who are most active should aim to mentor, coach, advise, and encourage those with potential to have an impact in their communities and keep the Artery healthy and active.

If you experience or witness unacceptable behaviour — or have any other concerns please report it either through the form below or email. All reports will be handled with discretion.

In your report please include:

  • Your contact information.
  • Names (real, nicknames, or pseudonyms) of any individuals involved. If there are additional witnesses, please include them as well.
  • Your account of what occurred, and if you believe the incident is ongoing. If there is a publicly available record (e.g. posts), please include a link.
  • Any additional information that may be helpful.
  • After filing a report, a representative from Axis will contact you personally. The incident will be reviewed, followed up with any additional questions, and make a decision as to how to respond.
  • Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behaviour at odds with or in the spirit of this Code of Conduct is expected to do so immediately. If an individual continues to engage in unacceptable behaviour, Axis may take any action it deems appropriate, up to and including a permanent ban from the Social Artery without further warning.
